Gals + Glitter = Good Times!

My sister Megan's husband is out of town on business this week...which means it was time for another ladies night. My sister Andrea and sister-in-law Lesli joined me at Meg's last night for a little Dr. Pepper and yes, "Glitter." Megan was determined to watch this movie. She says she was just really curious about the movie that single-handedly ended Mariah's career. The funny thing is, this movie is so bad that NO Blockbuster's carry it. After she called the 4th store, the employee said, "yeah, if you really want to get that movie, you're going to have to get it from Blockbuster Online" so she did!
Here are just a few issues this movie had:
1. It is set in the 80's. Any movie that is set in the 80's needs to be making fun of it, (ie. Wedding Singer) because I can't take any actress seriously who is wearing leg warmers, a side ponytail and a checkered cap with a flipped up brim.
2.Mariah has approximately 2 lines in the whole movie. It became apparent that they gave her as little lines as possible so you wouldn't be able to tell what a crappy actress she is...yeah, that didn't really work out.
3.Terrible cinematography/editing. Every once in a while, there were crazy camera angles that didn't make sense, a series of scenes that were in fast-forward (literally) and some that were in slow motion. Oh, and let's not forget the poofs of sparkly glitter that were occasionally used as transitions between scenes.
I could go on, but just know that we had a great time making fun of pretty much every aspect of this movie. Next on the list? That Ben Affleck/J-Lo movie "Gigli"...should be a treat!

Rock Band Party

My brother Tom turned the big 2-9 yesterday. To celebrate, my family got together at Megan's house for pizza and Rock Band! If you haven't had the pleasure of playing Rock Band yet, you're seriously missing out. Aaron and I own Guitar Hero, but Rock Band is so much more fun because you play with 4 people at a time. Someone's on bass, guitar, drums and vocals. I have to admit I felt pretty cool playing lead guitar on 'Say it Aint So' by Weezer. Aaaah, how great that I can pretend instead of spending years perfecting actual musical talent :) Aaron got SO excited when it was his turn to sing and 'Black Hole Sun' by Sound Garden came up...it's funny to see him get so giddy while making all his rock star dreams come true. We'll have to borrow the game from Meg soon so we can put on a little rock concert of our own. Happy Birthday Tom!

Neil on bass, Dustin on lead guitar, Chris on drums and Tom on vocals for "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi. Tom LOVES this song and got 100% on vocals! It's so fun to watch them all get so into their performance.
Aaron on lead guitar making his best punk rocker face.

He Did It!

Last night was "Day 6" from the previous "Sleeping Saga" post and Finn slept 11 hours without crying! Hallelujah!

Some January Kodak Moments

He's getting so big! This was taken about a month ago after his first taste of rice cereal. He really loves it and I'm planning to start feeding him 'grown-up' food soon...what happened to my little new-born? Mommy and Daddy toting the little guy around in the Baby Bjorn (scored at Kid2Kid for $30). He has so much fun in it and kicks his legs non-stop. I like how freaked out he looks in the picture with me. Bring on the Jolly Jumper! My sister let us borrow this contraption that her husband jumped in during the 70s. What you can't see in this picture is the suh-weet green canopy with beige fringe at the top. We rigged it up to our spiral staircase...and Finn LOVES it! It just goes to show that toys don't have to be expensive to be fun!

Sleeping Saga

So, turns out, some babies sleep through the night their first night home from the hospital...wouldn't that be nice!
Despite my best efforts to follow "Baby Wise", Finn still wakes up a few times a night. I had a goal that he would be sleeping through the night by the time he is 6 months old...and since that's in a week (and I am about to jump off a cliff) Aaron and I decided it was time to let him 'cry it out.'
Day 1: Finn woke up at 2 AM and cried for an hour and a half. I forced myself to stay in bed the whole time and it was really hard. When I finally went down to check on him, he was sound asleep, had kicked off all his blankets and turned his body a complete 180 degrees! But he only woke up that one time and was his smiley self again once morning rolled around.

Day 2: Finn woke up twice but only cried for 5-10 minutes both times! Hooray! I was completely elated -- having him 'cry it out' actually worked!

Day 3: Ahhh, I was such a fool to think it was all over. This night he woke up at 1:30 AM and cried off and on for 3 hours! He would fall asleep for 10-20 minutes, and then start crying again. I eventually went into his room at 4 am to find him happily kicking and smiling -- cute in retrospect but horribly annoying at the time. The victory was his when I succombed to rocking him to sleep....you win some you lose some.

Day 4: Finn woke up around 2:30 AM and cried for about an hour. Every 20 minutes I went into his room, tucked him in and told him I loved him. This helped each time for a few minutes, and then after the third attempt he stayed asleep until 7 AM.

Day 5: Finn woke up one time at about 11 PM but only cried for 10 minutes...then stayed asleep until 7 AM! Success!!

Tonight will be Day 6. Wish me luck. I'm pretty sure that even if he wakes up a time or two, he is at least a lot closer than he was before to sleeping the entire night through...and that makes me feel pretty great since I was getting really sick of living in Sleep-Deprivation-Ville. Sweet Dreams Finn!
